  • Discussion 2017 is over!

Hi, this is my first post. I am a Christian, but struggle with addiction to internet porn.

As I go into this new year, I take with me Proverbs 18:10:

10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

If you battle with this, you know that the feeling of temptation can feel totally overpowering. That is a lie from Satan! God promises a place to hide - a place of His presence - a strong tower of refuge.

One thing I need to learn to do at such times is start reading Scripture. Filling my mind with God's promises and exhortations.

2017 is over! I'm not bound by it any more. By God's grace I must move on.

Luke 6:46-48 English Standard Version (ESV)
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built."

This shows me how to build a strong house, that will not collapse when the hurricane strikes.

      Re: 2017 is over!

"You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!"

"But I know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him."

      --selections from Psalm 4 (ESV)

I need God's Word every single day! Posting here, even when nobody responds, is still important!

        Psalm 5:11-12 ESV

11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. 12 For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.

Looking back both at this topic, and various threads, I see either no recent responses, or nothing recent from the person who originally started a thread. For this reason it appears that I am in the wrong place.... either to encourage someone else or to receive encouragement.

Actually, thanks to God I'm doing well! But I also know the dangers ahead.

I may check back to see if any response, but basically I am leaving to find fellowship elsewhere.

3 vital things for me to do-----

              Ephesians 4:22-24 (ESV)
22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
