Thread: In Nightvisions Only

    In Nightvisions Only

    To the beautiful girl I married long ago;

    In Nightvisions Only

A silver night in armor was I
Under milky moon & sparkling sky
Your gaze fell upon me quite often it seems
But in nightvisions only & only in dreams

I saw you a maiden under a blossom tree
With bright eyes in the dark as light as can be
Which were only lit when I came galloping by
And you arose for me only from where you did lie

Your looks so inviting I stopped there my white steed
And saw in your eyes a welcome indeed
Your smile so pleasant I know what it means
But in nightvisions only & only in dreams

There you did talk with me for a long, long while
And desired to walk with me for over a mile
Your eyes like the stars & ruby red lips
When kissed like a cup of sweet nectar one sips

    Lillies & roses & poplars & snapdragons
Pipers & poets & canopied wagons
Nobles & ladies drinking ale and cream
But in nightvisions only & only in dreams

    Music & laughter & children a running
A rivers reflection in moonlight so stunning
A nighttime so gorgeous it's hard to believe
And rapture as joyous as one could receive

As charmed by a charmer to my words you listen
With radiant glow & a countenance that glistens
My words make your heart flow as smooth running streams
But in nightvisions only & only in dreams

Castles & clouds & rainbows are here
With green grass & willows & blue lakes quite clear
A place from which our souls would not sever
It is so much like the land of forever

I reach for your hand & you do not resist
For the look on your face you seem to insist
For your heartstrings are touched; for this your soul leans
But in nightvisions only & only in dreams

Spices & cakes & sugarplums many
All can be bought here for only a penny
Here again, there again, it's all one & the same
Such love & such joy here there's no room for blame

And when in the moment I reach for your kiss
To share with you sweetly my deepening bliss
Your face fades to nothing, morning sunlight now beams
Like in nightvisions only & only in dreams

So I invite you my darling to come to this place
For it is here only we may ever embrace
From the eyes of the world in here are we hidden
Nay, we wish nothing at all that's forbidden

If you find your heart touched & your soul much eased
Then come to this land where your feelings are pleased
May my words bring you there, you'll know what it means
But in nightvisions only & only in dreams

I really like the 'feel' and the atmosphere of this poem, YC. Not only do you have a vivid imagination, but you are well able to put what you 'envision' into words - a real gift.

    Excellent poem
    God bless.

Thanks again. I wrote this one about ten years ago. My wife loved it.

I am sure she did - it's very romantic .

(My hubby turns green and wants to run away whenever I ask him to read one of my poems - he is not what I would call a 'poetic' kind of person )
