    Was Rachel crying for the baby boys slain in Bethlehem?

    Varying opinions. What's yours? The immediate implication is on the distress on an Israelite mother for her children slain in the Babylonian invasion, but what is the future implication?

    Jeremiah 31:15

    Thus says the Lord:
    A voice is heard in Ramah,
    lamentation and bitter weeping.
    Rachel is weeping for her children;
    she refuses to be comforted for her children,
    because they are no more. (Jeremiah 31:15, ESV)
    I know what I know
    I know what I don't know
    I don't know what I don't know.

    Rachael is the symbolic mother of the ten tribes. Any time there is violence she is said to "weep" this could apply to any terrible events concerning this people in the past or the future, even up to those that rejected/reject Christ. Ultimately God will slay/destroy unbelievers.

    James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

    Re: Was Rachel crying for the baby boys slain in Bethlehem?

    Rachel, being buried in Bethlehem, represents Bethlehem women.

    The Massacre of the Innocents

    Matthew 12:16-18 "Then Herod, when he saw that he had been outwitted by the wise men, flew into a rage. He gave orders to massacre all the male children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and under, in keeping with the time he had learned from the wise men. Then what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: 'A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; and she refused to be consoled, because they were no more.'"

    This is in relation to the destruction of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, Ramah was a city in the alotted area of the tribe of Benjamin. The Northern Kingdom was no more.
    With the killing of the innocence by Herod, matthew fulfills this using typology.
