Browser problems

Lately I've been having problems with my browsers freezing up. I may get to two sites or two pages on a site then it freezes (i.e. not responding).

I use Firefox but chrome did the same thing. Any idea what could be causing this? And idea how I can fix it?

If your connection/speed is poor it could just be the fact that some sites add a lot of backgound garbage ( ad sites, analytics sites, resource sites, etc) in their host files. You can get free programs like Ad Block Plus and Ghostery that may help a bit with that as they block most of them from loading up and clogging up your download ( accessing a site )

If you've got a good connection/good internet speed...

First I would run an anti-virus scan and I always advise people to have a copy of Malwarebytes downloaded and handy. You can get it for free here https://www.malwarebytes.com/
Even if you already have an antivirus program that runs in real time ( like I do ) you should also use Malwarebytes from time to time as well. It can and will and find things that other programs miss.

After that:

Update your browsers if you aren't using the latest versions ( and turn on auto update if you haven't already)
Update Flash and Java. You have to update them on both browsers not just one.
Check see if any extensions or add-ons are causing the problem.

If all else fails a last ditch effort is to save a copy of your Favorites and uninstall and reinstall your browsers. It's rare that they get corrupted these days but I guess it could still happen. It's very hard to believe that both of them could have been corrupted at the same time and have the same problems but stranger things have happened I guess.

I have Winzip system Utilities, Microsoft security essentials, Malwarebytes and AT&T Troubleshooting utility.

When I used the trouble shooting program and the first thing it said was that there was a missing extension on the Firefox browser and could not go on until it was fixed. The program fixed it and now I am up and running again.

You may need more RAM or just a standard anti-virus run.
