Newsweek, Oct 4, 2017 (emphasis added): Radiation From Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Discovered in Sand and Groundwater 60 Miles Away… the beach groundwater is even 10 times more radioactive than the ocean directly next to the Fukushima plant.

Gizmodo, Oct 4, 2017: Fukushima’s Radioactive Waste Is Leaking From an Unexpected Source — A new and unexpected source of radioactive material left over from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster has been found up to 60 miles away along coastlines… The discovery shows that damaged nuclear reactors are capable of spreading radiation far from the meltdown site, and in some surprising ways.

UPI, Oct 3, 2017: Beaches found releasing radioactive cesium into ocean 60 miles from Fukushima… Scientists have discovered a surprising new source of radioactive cesium… [Researchers] found unusually high levels of radioactive cesium-137 in the groundwater beneath several beaches… “No one expected that the highest levels of cesium in ocean water today would be found not in the harbor of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, but in the groundwater many miles away below the beach sands,” WHO researcher Virginie Sanial said…

Fox News, Oct 3, 2017: Fukushima’s radioactive cesium found an unexpected hiding spot… The find wasn’t just a surprise, but significant. As the researchers write, “Aside from the aquifer beneath [the plant], the highest recorded present-day activities of [cesium-137] in the aqueous environment in Japan are associated with brackish groundwater underneath beaches.”

IFL Science, Oct 2, 2017: Scientists investigating the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan have found an unexpected source of radioactive material… [It’s] an alarming example of how radiation from the reactor has spread… “It is as if the sands acted as a ‘sponge’ that was contaminated in 2011 and is only slowly being depleted,” said study co-author Ken Buesseler…

Study – Unexpected source of Fukushima-derived radiocesium to the coastal ocean of Japan, Sep 26, 2017: [T]he highest radiocesium (137Cs) activities outside of the power plant site were observed in brackish groundwater underneath sand beaches… During our study period, we found the highest cesium-137 (137Cs) levels (up to 23,000 Bq⋅m−3) outside of the FDNPP site not in the ocean, rivers, or potable groundwater, but in groundwater beneath sand beaches over tens of kilometers away from the FDNPP. Here, we present evidence of a previously unknown, ongoing source of Fukushima-derived 137Cs to the coastal ocean… This estimated ocean 137Cs source (0.6 TBq⋅y−1) is of similar magnitude as the ongoing releases of 137Cs from the FDNPP site for 2013–2016, as well as the input of Fukushima-derived dissolved 137Cs via rivers… This unexpected and ongoing 137Cs source requires further investigation…

‘Alarm’: Feds find ‘bizarre’ results in survey of Pacific Ocean — Record low numbers of fish — Expert: “We pulled that net up, and there was not a thing in it… this is really different than anything we’ve ever seen”

Seattle Times, Oct 9, 2017 (emphasis added): Scientists survey Pacific Northwest salmon each year. For the first time, some nets are coming up empty — Scientists have been hauling survey nets through the ocean off the coasts of Washington and Oregon for 20 years. But this is the first time some have come up empty… In a report on their trawl survey, the scientists logged some of the lowest numbers of yearling Snake River spring chinook recorded since the survey began in 1998. Coho numbers were just as depressed… This year’s bizarre survey results all started with The Blob… [NOAA’s David] Huff said the purpose of a memo the research team wrote to managers about their survey results was intended to provide an early warning of how poor and just plain strange conditions in the ocean off Washington and Oregon’s coasts are…

Alert after collapse at nuclear site in N. Korea — “Fears of massive radioactive leak” — Scientist: Fallout may spread across “entire hemisphere” — Expert: Could cause major disaster… Radioactive material will go “into ocean a bit like Fukushima”

The Sun, Nov 1, 2017: North Korea nuclear tunnel collapses ‘killing at least 200 people’ amid fears of a massive radioactive leak… The disaster has prompted fears of a massive radioactive leak which could spark a Chernobyl- or Fukushima-style disaster… Chinese nuclear weapons researcher and chair of the China Nuclear Society Wang Naiyan told the Morning Post a collapse could spark a major environmental disaster. He said: “We call it ‘taking the roof off’. If the mountain collapses and the hole is exposed, it will let out many bad things.”

Newsweek, Nov 1, 2017: North Korean Soldiers Are Being Treated for Radiation Exposure After Nuclear Test: Report… Concerns over radiation leaks from the North Korean nuclear test site continue to grow in Japan… Chinese nuclear weapons expert Wei Shijie told The Telegraph that a nuclear leak was “inevitable.” He said: “It is just a matter of time to detect it, because there are cracks on mountains where radioactive substances will leak.”

Accuweather, Nov 1, 2017: Winds from North Korea nuclear test site may send radiation toward Japan, AccuWeather says — Following a deadly tunnel collapse at a North Korean nuclear test site, winds may strengthen from the northwest and direct radiation toward northern Japan, according to AccuWeather research… “We know from other news reports that there has been an accident at the nuclear test site… As winds pick up out of the northwest over the next few days, it is possible that any radiation that leaks from the site could be carried and dispersed across the Sea of Japan [East Sea] and even to the Japanese islands” [said Dr. Joel N. Myers, AccuWeather founder and president.] The threat may include Hokkaido and far-northern Honshu, with the possibility of radiation reaching areas farther south this weekend…

Radiation near Tokyo spiked to 100,000,000 times normal after Fukushima — “Intensive contamination” hit Tokyo area… “Extremely high” levels detected — Info about radioactive contamination hidden from public.

PLOS, Nov 14, 2017 (emphasis added): Radioactive contamination in the Tokyo metropolitan area in the early stage of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident and its fluctuation over five years

The activity and inventory of radioactive material in the eastern part of Tokyo tended to be high… The radioactive plume with high 131I activity spread into the Tokyo metropolitan area…

Almost no public information about the radioactive contamination in the Tokyo metropolitan area and Kanto district had been shared…The plume containing a large amount of radioactive material drifted into the Tokyo metropolitan area… where over 30 million residents live… [Publications] include almost no discussion of the fact that radioactive materials were carried into the Tokyo metropolitan area…

The contamination level was extremely high in a roadside ditch sludge in Kashiwa City…The quantity of 134+137Cs deposited in the region studied was estimated… from values measured in the soil, it was estimated as 5.35 TBq...High activities and inventories of the radionuclides were found in eastern Tokyo and northern Chiba… The contamination was even higher in the adjoining northern part of Chiba located east of Tokyo…

The results reveal that the Tokyo metropolitan area even now continues to be affected by radioactive contamination caused by the FDNPP accident…

I find the use of "Japan poised to flood Pacific..." unnecessary. 1Mt of radioactive water is not that much with respect to the volume of the Pacific Basin. It would be a cube of 100 metres on a side. Not that I advocate routinely disposing of nuclear waste in the ocean.
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.

As if that wasn't bad enough teddy there's more here than meets the eye much more..

Radiation levels inside the containment vessel of reactor No. 2 at Fukushima has reached 530 sieverts per hour—a figure described by experts as “unimaginable.” The readings, taken by Tokyo Electric Power Co. Holdings Inc. (Tepco), were taken near the entrance of a space immediately below the pressure vessel, which contains the reactor core.

The radiation level inside the plant now far exceeds the previous high of 73 sieverts per hour, which was recorded soon after the triple meltdown in March 2011. Tepco made the readings by analyzing electronic noise caused by the radiation in video images. The company says this technique has a margin of error of plus or minus 30 percent (so even at the extreme low ball, the levels are no lower than 370 sieverts per minute—but possibly as high as 690!).

Needless to say, this plant is not fit for human life. Just one dose of a single sievert is enough to cause radiation sickness and nausea. Exposure to four to five sieverts would kill about half of those exposed to it within a month, while a single dose of 10 sieverts is enough to kill a person within weeks. Emphasis mine..

Why would you care? If these are the "last days" (from your perspective) you have nothing to concern yourself over.

Former US Senator: All these Navy sailors have died after Fukushima radiation exposure — TV program reveals many are now dead — Veterans break down in tears… suffering cancers, paralysis, amputations, bleeding from anus, severe pain

Courthouse News, Sep 1, 2017 (emphasis added): Dying Navy Sailors Push for Trial on Fukushima Meltdown — Representing cancer-ridden Navy service members who say they were exposed to radiation on a humanitarian mission in Fukushima, former Sen. John Edwards urged a federal judge Thursday to set a date for trial. Over a decade after serving as John Kerry’s running mate in the 2004 presidential election, Edwards now represents hundreds of Navy sailors who were aboard the USS Ronald Reagan… “We have all these sailors whose case is now five years old, who have died or are in the process of dying right now,” said Edwards… Edwards noted that some of his other clients have seen their children born with birth defects… He said they want to make sure “the truth comes out” and that the “word gets out about the dangers and risks that exist not just in Japan, but in other parts of the world.”

New Study: US state hit with up to 200 times more Fukushima fallout than expected — Over a Trillion becquerels of nuclear waste fell on Hawaii — Scientists: “Plume may have taken an alternative path… Greater than anticipated”

Fukushima-derived radiocesium fallout in Hawaiian soils… This study estimated the magnitude of cesium deposition in soil, collected in 2015-2016, resulting from atmospheric fallout… Detectable, Fukushima-derived 134Cs inventories ranged from 30 to 630 Bq m-2 and 137Cs inventories ranged from 20 to 2200 Bq m-2… This research confirmed and quantified the presence of Fukushima-derived fallout in the state of Hawai’i in amounts higher than predicted by models and observed in the United States mainland…

Using the conservative values and integrating over the whole area with rainfall above 200 mm, we estimate that the island of Hawaii received 1.50 x 10^12 Bq [1.5 Trillion Bq] of 134Cs and 137Cs, each isotope contributing 50%, between March 19 and April 4, 2011…

Michio Kaku On Fukushima 2017: ‘Nuclear Fission Is A Faustian Bargain’ [Opinion]

“The future of Nuclear fission is a Faustian bargain. Faust was the mythical figure who sold his soul to the devil for unlimited power. Nations like Japan who have no coal or oil are reaching for this Faustian bargain.”

Michio Kaku, a string theory physicist, gave his evaluation of the current state of containment at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan. The area was hit with a magnitude nine earthquake followed by a massive tsunami in 2011.

Now, Michio Kaku says the Fukushima power plant is clearly a level nine nuclear accident, mathematically speaking. Michio Kaku said in the video interview below, with Democracy Now, the danger is potentially on the level with Chernobyl with further potential to become much worse because it is not yet stable or properly contained. It is still leaking radiation.
