Ash Cloud From Hawaii Volcano Sparks Red Alert For Aviation

Explosions intensified on Hawaii's Kilauea volcano on Tuesday, spewing ash and triggering a red alert for aircraft for the first time since the latest eruption began 12 days ago.

Ash and volcanic smog, or vog, as it is called, rose to 12,000 feet (3,657 meters) above Kilauea's crater and floated southwest, showering cars on Highway 11 with gray dust and prompting an "unhealthy air" advisory in the community of Pahala, 18 miles (29 km) from the summit.

An aviation red alert means a volcanic eruption is under way that could spew ash along aircraft routes, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)

I read the comments from those living there under the news articles on this. Those who live in the area are nervous of course. Homes have been lost. Crops are dying from the ash. But many seem unafraid and are upset over how many tourist are cancelling their trips because of this not understanding how only a small part of the island is being affected. They are losing their jobs over this. Yet others, who live far away are struggling to get clean air because of the vog. So it makes for kind of a confused mess. On top of all of this many believe this is the work of a volcano goddess named pele.

I wanted to share this link of it erupting in the early morning hours though it's not the big one they are expecting.

    Lots of magma moving around.

I hope this link works for everyone. It goes to a Facebook page showing the lava flow after a long description of what's going on. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?sto...64104046981828

Hawaii volcano shooting lava 150 feet into the air, as emissions boost ER visits..

The most active fissure from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano spewed lava up to 150 feet into the air on Monday, as the emissions from the ongoing eruptions are sending more residents to the hospital over respiratory issues.

The U.S. Geological Survey said that volcanic Fissure 22 produced a massive fountain of molten rock on Monday, and shared photos of the lava gushing into the air.

Fissure 22 continues to produce most of the lava feeding the flows that are now pouring into the sea, generating plumes of plumes of lava haze or "laze" as it interacts with seawater.

Hawaii eruption: Ash now flying ONE AND A HALF MILES into the air above Big Island

EXPLODING ash from the erupting volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island has climbed a whopping one and a half miles into the sky, three weeks after the lava started spewing.

Kilauea volcano has wreaked havoc on the US island state, pouring molten lava across the Big Island and into the sea.

On Wednesday, authorities confirmed the ash cloud had risen to 2.44 kilometres above the sea (1.52 miles).

The huge plumes of smoke could be putting residents at risk, as the volcano’s ash has already been causing issues.

One major problem with the volcano has been ‘laze’ - the poisonous acid steam caused when lava hits the ocean and cools.

The volcano is actually only impacting a very small portion of the Island.

It's a huge event no doubt. But the actual impacted area is a very small area of a rather large Island. And is not impacting any of the other islands nor flights into and out of the area.

I think the islands are a volcano, aren't they? I mean it's been going on since before we were witnesses to it.

Re: Hawaii Volcano Shooting Lava 150 Feet Into The Air

That article is a bit sensationalized. As Old Man mentioned, the area affected is only a small portion of the island. Hilo is in no danger. As it stands, I'd be far more concerned if Mauna Loa woke up as that is a larger volcano and can threaten more people. Kilauea itself has been continuously erupting since 1983 or so. This is definitely a larger event, but shield volcanoes pose quite little risk to people. The volcanoes of the Cascades have far more potential to cause serious danger to people.

it is getting closer, perhaps this year as Rev. 12 has pointed too. the wise men understood this thousands of years ago, we can too. be blessed...

Mr 13:8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

John, why is Hawaii in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?
