    I didn't read the book, but I have a similar book "Answers to your Bible Version Questions" by David W. Daniels with a section on "What is the Septuagint?" in chapter 2.The claim that Origen back-translated New Testament quotations into the Old Testament does not work because the Dead Sea Scrolls pre-date Origen. For example, Isaiah 53:11 NIV with footnotes:

    Isaiah 53:11 New International Version (NIV)
    11 After he has suffered,
    he will see the light of life[a] and be satisfied[b];
    by his knowledge[c] my righteous servant will justify many,
    and he will bear their iniquities.

    Footnotes:
    a. Isaiah 53:11 Dead Sea Scrolls (see also Septuagint); Masoretic Text does not have the light of life.
    b. Isaiah 53:11 Or (with Masoretic Text) 11 He will see the fruit of his suffering / and will be satisfied
    c. Isaiah 53:11 Or by knowledge of him

    This indicates that the Septuagint was translated from a Hebrew manuscript that is older than Origen, and therefore represents a variant Hebrew manuscript. Origen did not take a perfect Masoretic Text and change it arbitrarily. The claim that Origen invented the LXX appears flawed.

    It looks like most people think the Letter of Aristeas is fake. But Philo is an independent witness that the LXX itself is not fake (http://www.hope-of-israel.org/lxx.htm, The Works of Philo, p. 494):

    "On which account, even to this very day, there is EVERY YEAR a solemn assembly held and a festival celebrated in the island of Pharos, to which not only the Jews but a great number of persons of other nations sail across, reverencing the place in which the first light of interpretation shone forth, and thanking God for that ancient piece of beneficence which was always young and fresh"
    Philo testified that there was an annual festival to commemorate the LXX. Unless Philo is ignorant, lying, or misquoted, the Septuagint is older than the New Testament.

    Has any one gave any consideration to how the Jews arrive at the current year, 5778? Where are the missing 222+ years?

    Blessings

    **MOD NOTE:

    The link in question contains several articles with teachings contrary to the purpose of this board and that are contrary to what the Bible teaches. It's been deleted twice now. Do not post it again.
